The “crazy” in my Childhood years was that tummy aches, dehydration, constipation, and headaches were revealed in the human body as lack of focus, and moodiness. They look like “bratty children,” they would say, rather than “they have symptoms of nerve damage” due to overeating processed foods and watching too much TV. Oh well. After eighteen years, “childhood hyperactivity” was due to “negligence” by parents. However, to our parents’ defense, every grocery store within driving distance sold food that was publicly advertised by TV; the centerpiece in everyone’s living room. I am writing to share with you how I escaped a painful existence and to help you avoid the same fate.
According to Timothy Leary, “drop out and tune in” was a message from above, so I did. I humbly picked up books from used book stores after an LSD trip and a clinical diagnosis of Schizophrenia. Miraculously, older books on herbs, plants, diet, and exercise sold for $0.50 to $1.00. Even more, there were used college textbooks on Nutrition, Anatomy, and Psychology. In addition, I turned off the TV and the radio and suddenly my brain woke up to see a “world of recycling” or “the cleaning-up” of what grown-ups had left behind. Not only books, but clothing and kitchen appliances were being resold and reused. Goodwill, Savers, Salvation Army, plus privately owned businesses opened their doors to give it all away, as if God himself was apologizing for the entire progressive rock and rap era to its punk and grunge generation. Then, there was more mercy, and I finally joined a Tai Chi and Yoga studio that explained God, Taoism, and real JOY (Nobody got in my way, nobody cared so the sky was the limit!)
Even though childhood was depressing, and abandonment was a painful emotion to carry, through book reading, I am happy to have an IQ of 121, be intelligent, and a GPA of 3.89, an honor student. But it was the Tai Chi and Yoga center that delivered Life force/Chi back into my body and woke it to life’s full potential in the midst of “the new dawn.” Not only books and chi, but also a clinical diagnosis by the school of psychiatry allowed me to drop out of the “rat race” and focus inward. The good news is that people recover plus regain momentum in life so keep true to yourselves.
